You Never Grow Old At The Table | The Mediterranean Diet
"A Tavola non si Invecchia" in English "You Never Grow Old At The Table". This is a famous Italian proverb we grew up with, profoundly meaningful for Italians. It refers to The Mediterranean Diet that is not just a Diet but a lifestyle typical of Italy, Cyprus, Croatia, Spain, Greece, Morocco and Portugal. The proverb explains why in Italy we love high-quality food, why we stay around a dinner table for hours, why we cook our own meal instead of ordering it and so many other aspects typicals of the Italian lifestyle.
Inscribed in 2013 on the Representative List of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity", the Mediterranean Diet is a lifestyle that embraces many aspects of daily life.
In these columns, we are going to present to you this Cultural Heritage of Humanity and we hope you will start to embrace this lifestyle in order to eat better, live healthy and longer.

The Mediterranean Diet is not a Dieting Trend, it is a lifestyle that allows you to live longer. (As demonstrate by Harvard School of Public Health, the British Medical Journal and as explained by CNN, Time and many others).
Actually, the best way to understand what it involves is reading the Official UNESCO statement.
"The Mediterranean diet involves a set of skills, knowledge, rituals, symbols and traditions concerning crops, harvesting, fishing, animal husbandry, conservation, processing, cooking, and particularly the sharing and consumption of food."
"Eating together is the foundation of the cultural identity and continuity of communities throughout the Mediterranean basin. It is a moment of social exchange and communication, an affirmation and renewal of family, group or community identity. The Mediterranean diet emphasizes values of hospitality, neighbourliness, intercultural dialogue and creativity, and a way of life guided by respect for diversity."
"It plays a vital role in cultural spaces, festivals and celebrations, bringing together people of all ages, conditions and social classes. It includes the craftsmanship and production of traditional receptacles for the transport, preservation and consumption of food, including ceramic plates and glasses. " UNESCO Declaration.
