OUR STORY

THE BEGINNING

 

When we started our adventure with usitalianfood.com (the name of our first website), we had barely any experience in the food business. We moved from Italy to NYC and we missed Sicilian Food, the authentic one. We missed the unrefined, traditional food we were used to, so we started importing it.

Time passed and that became a serious thing.

We met with many producers, some of them were very amazing and devoted to their products, some devoted just to the money. We discovered the bright and the dark side of the food industry. Even at the small level.

 

Since the beginning though, we found our way into it and we have always been determined to stick with our mission.

AT THE SAME TIME WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST REAL WHOLESALE ORDER!

ROOTS

 

Growing up in Sicily means having a strong tie with our land and a great sense of respect for nature, seasonality, food, ancient techniques, and a lot more. Family and all the traditions that come with it. The preservation of the family ties, the love for simple things, and the importance of spending time around the table, with the people you love, eating good food together.

In Sicily, we say: " You never Grow Old at the Table".

THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN FOR SHARING FOOD WITH PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT.

WE WERE IN A WINERY WITH SOME FRIENDS.

THE WINERY OWNER DECIDED TO SPEND THE DAY WITH US, SO IN A FEW MINUTES WE SET THE TABLE AND WE COOK A "SPAGHETTATA IMPROVVISATA"(IMPROMPTU SPAGHETTI).

THEN WE SPENT THE AFTERNOON TOGETHER! 

THIS WAS LITERALLY AMAZING!

THE CHANGE

 

At some point though, sticking with our values without compromise became very difficult. Our young company was slowly dying. We were stuck in the mud dealing with the food industry rules.

Sometimes because we were forced to accept a specific ingredient we didn't like and we didn’t want in our products. Sometimes was the lack of sustainability, sometimes we were desperately asking for a simpler process to produce unrefined food. All this was very frustrating but actually, it was what convinced us to keep doing it in our own way!

 

This is how SELIGO was born.

We decided to dedicate ourselves to what we believe in!

 

PRODUCERS: we select and we will select, only producers that truly believe and share our mission and values. Without their knowledge, passion, and dedication we could not bring to you these incredible products.

 

RAW PRIMARY INGREDIENTS: few, simple ingredients, unrefined.

 

SUSTAINABILITY: starting from the process, packaging, even the logistic processes will be sustainable. We are trying to become every day more sustainable and to come up with new unconventional solutions.

 

We could spend days talking about our values and what we want to do from now on but for now, we wanted you to know you about the new chapter in this journey!
